Oprah and her Tweet.

Ok, I am not really an Oprah fan but yesterday I saw an ad for her show where she was going to go on to Twitter for the first time and show everbody about it. Check her site here about her twittering.

She also had on her show Demi Moore’s new husband, and I mean new, I think he’s only 15 or something, and he had just beaten CNN to getting 1 million followers.

So I watched it and it was OK and vaguely interesting.

What was interesting is, at the start of the show her number of followers was about 72,000 . I got on to her twitter page and started refreshing it every few seconds and I could not believe the speed that that follower number was increasing. Even now after 2 days, if you go to her twitter page you will see the number steadily increasing by the second. Also what is interesting is that although she has over 300,000 followers, she (or her people) are only actually following 10. So I wouldn’t try getting her to follow you if I were you.

Now if any of you out there want proof of the power of Twitter (and Oprah and TV) then there’s a good excercise for you to do.

So I am now off to go and leave a twit about this blog. Oh boy. If my mum and dad could hear me now.

Information overload gives me butterflies.

The much hyped and promoted Butterfly Marketing 2.0 arrived yesterday.
Yes I couldn’t resist it. Trouble is I really don’t know exactly when I am going to get round to going through the 10 or is it 12 discs and 3 books.

I am already behind with this blog. This is the first post for over 12 days. Shame on me. But you see it’s all TMI. Too much information.

In addition to my full time job(s) there is of course operationebook which we downloaded last week not to mention the arduous task of actually deciding exactly what I am going to write about in my new ebook.

But having said that, I have made progress. Being a bit of a real estate guru, (one of my other jobs), after looking for hours through CB not finding anything that really caught my imagination, I thought I would write someting I actually knew about as a sort of tester.

I had the page graphics done and hope to have a rough draft by this weeks end. Check it out. The design is awesome considering the price.

I have pulled out my diary and set up a schedule to get started on Mike Fileaime’s course, Op Ebook and of course my own book so hopefully things should get together pretty soon.
Anybody else out there suffering form TMI. I bet there is.
Is there an ebook I can download to help with this.

It’s the early bird that catches the worm.

Back in 1999 the changeover to the new millenium was going to caught choas throughout the computer and internet world until we all realised that it didn’t. Mass hysteria.
Well now that April 1st is upon us the latest is the W32. Worm Downadup
virus which is going to kick in tomorrow and ruin all our digital lives.
computer-worm
If you are a teeniest bit paranoid then do as I have and download a simple program that checks out your computer from a reliable source such as symantec.com
At least you won’t get woken up in the middle of the night with screams of your desktop being attacked by a worm.

Whatever next.

Should you jump on the BANS wagon ?

Yes I did say the BANS wagon. Hi Phil here.

A few posts ago I mentioned about having multiple streams of income.
One of those streams are a series BANS sites.
The BANS software is a really easy program to use and set up and with it you can churn out basic unmodified BANS sites in about 15 minutes each.

Now, way back last year when they were all the rage and before the search engines caught on to them, the earnings from the basic sites were quite reasonable even with a meager amount of SEO.

Now most search engines really don’t like them and everyone thinks that they are a waste of time, as I did, until the other day.

I have quite a few of them some which I set up, promoted once in a basic submission program, and really forgot all about as I went on to other things.

The other day I was running a report from Ebay Partner Network and I was pleasantly surprised to see that quite a few of them were actually bringing in a steady trickle of income. Now, not much
I grant you, a few $’s a week each but nevertheless it did prove a point to me that BANS sites are not a dead loss by any means.

Here’s a few:
http://tractorsandthings.com
http://wheelchairs-for-sale.com
http://reloaders-for-sale.com
http://hangarauctions.com
http://jeepsandthings.com
http://cuckoo-clocks-for-sale.com/
http://jukeboxes-for-sale.com/
http://ticketsandthings.com/

….to name but a few. As you can see this is a really varied collection of ‘niches’ but all of them are bringing a a few cents a day. Some, as you can see, haven’t even been finished yet.

So when I have time between JT’s masterclass, a few ‘real jobs’ and a few other dozen projects I have lined up, I think I am going to re-visited the BANS world. I want to try out PHPbay which is another BANs type program which uses Wordpress to enhance the site.

Take a look if you haven’t already and the BANS bandwagon and see if you want to jump on.

John Thornhills Masterclass week 7

As eagerly anticipated as usual but, as usually, only looked at about 3 days after it arrived, due to my real job(s), Week 7 arrived in the mail.

No videos but a challenge for us to find 10 topics we are good at, 10 others think we are good at, 10 we like doing and 10 favourite websites.
Put them all into a list and then choose the top 10 for next weeks action plan.

Well I know that out there, there are a lot of folks that thought this was indeed a challenge. I think, the thing is that 10 topics is quite large a number to dig out especially if you are wanting to make money out of them later. But anyway I did my best and came up with what occupies my mind and time most of the time.

Guess what was number one. Yep you got it… the Internet and online incomes. Bottom of the list…. doing ‘property short sales’.

What a sad life I have. Is yours any sadder or do you have a real life.

Let me know.

Cheers

Phil

To www or not to www. That is the question?

As most of us know when we type in a(n) url into the browser we have found out that most of the time you just have to type e.g. phil-nash.com. You can also type in www.phil-nash.com, http://phil-nash.com or even http://www.phil-nash.com. (like the self promo there?) They all point to the same site so who cares.

Well Google and the other search sites care ..that’s who.
A great article here explains all about ‘canonicalization’ . (Isn’t that something you do to a Bishop)

The point to be grasped here is that when you decide on a(n) URL, you must decide whether you want it to be www.blahblah.com or just blahblah.com. Decide on one, then always promote that one and not the other. It seems that using www. is the best. That checks out with my other sites which definitely have a higher ranking when using the www. in the URL.

Comments please.

Master Class Blog Roll Top 20 Week 7

Quite a few wanted to me to do this Blog roll again for top 20 ranked by number of backlinks out there.
So here it is.

www.bwjohnson.co.uk

www.ron-barrett.com
www.michaelhaught.com
www.john-edwards-blog.com

Interesting to see how very few Google links there are on only a few of us. This is obviously the big challenge for all of us to overcome. Any suggestions here would be great.

So you can see if your ranking has changed from last week by comparing lists.

I see that this has gone from 38 to 42 links in 1 week.

If your site is not on the list then you either have not emailed JT the address of your site, or you score is 0.

I don’t quite know what conclusions to draw from this list other than I need to look at the content of the high rankers and get ideas from them.

I use www.checkyourlinkpopularity.com software to do this list which is free. I make everyone’s address a ‘www’ address but it is interesting to note that an address with a ‘www’ in it gives a different result thatn one without which i think is going to be the subject of my next post.
Comments please.

p.s. still don’t know what to do with the ’send backtracks to’ box below..for all you wordpress wizzkids. :(

Time and Tide Wait For No Man

In reply to another Masterclass blogger prompted me to write this about my own time management and to copy my comment to his blog on my blog.

Ah….time and tide wait for no man. I wonder who said that.

What I have become to realise is that the older you get the qucicker time seems to go. Now I don’t know whether becuase I have got more things to do everyday of just that I am taking longer to do things as it is, but I just seem to keep on running out of time.

We all have perceptions of what is precious to us, but as we grow older and, hopefully, more wiser, we begin to realise that time is one of the most precious commodities of them all and should be used carefully.

One solution I have developed is to, every morning, usually in my bath, map out my day’s activities very carefully and try and stick to that time map as best as possible. That schedule also includes rest breaks and catch up periods. It actually make the day last a bit longer and clears the confusion of what should I do next.

I also keep a quite detailed diary of things to do and when, which of course helps with the old memory, and is useful for setting up the next days activities.

All it takes is a bit of organisation.

Now what’s next on the list to do…

The Masterclass Blog Top 20

I thought it would be a good time to see how the blogs in JT’s blog roll are fairing.

Now here in the US, PC does not allow us to publicly announce what position you are in class or what your score is or how you compare with your peers just in case it offends the bottom of the class and makes them  feel inadequate or inferior heaven forbid. Well us grown-ups ( and they don’t come any more grown up than myself) will feel inspired to see how well others are doing and go on to put greater effort ourselves….right guys ?….OK

For many years I have used a small free program called Link Popularity Check to check how many links I have in the major search engines on some of my other sites. Download it for free here. It’s a great little program.

So I extracted all the blog URLs from JTs blog roll and plonked them into the program and dada… out popped the top 20 blogs with the most links. Now I suspect some of these belong to guys who really know what they are doing judging by some of the numbers.   There were, when I did this, 117 on JTs list.  To see full list go to here.    Now if I am way out of line then please let me know and I will take this page down. But for me it is a good way to see what is successful and what isn’t.

Now when I did this I actually entered everything twice, first without the www.  and then with the www.    So actually the list is twice as long with everybody’s blog in there twice. The numbers returned actually differ. What that means I have absolutely no idea.

So there’s something to keep you amused for a while.  Check out yours.

Me..  I hear you ask . Hey I am 53 out 117.  Not too bad I guess.  I thik we all need to take a look  Bj at the top here to see what he’s doing.

Thanks for stopping by.

Ok JT. My Pingbacks and Trackbacks are backing up.

OK JT followers.   When writing a new post just like I am doing right now underneath where I am writing there is a ’custom fields’ area, and  something about ‘trackbacks and pingbacks’ and suchlike.

Are any of you using these yet or are you waiting for further instructions. I  have done a bit or research but haven’t quite grasped it.

Any comments would be welcome.
